This substantial 2 Gallon Stoneware Pitcher, ca 1855-1865, has a rounded ovoid body, raised foot, cylindrical neck, and rolled rim with pronounced pouring lip. Bold, freely brushed cobalt decoration consists of stylized foliate sprays across the shoulder and body, with additional swag brushwork around the neck. The hand painted decoration is characteristic of the work attributed to Henry Harrison or Richard Clinton Remmey of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
 
The pitcher measures 13" high, with a 6 1/4" top diameter, and 7 1/4" bottom diameter with impressed "2" gallonage mark. This pitcher is in essentially as-made condition, retaining its original glaze with minor factory imperfections, including a glazed over flake along the bottom edge.
