Offered is an exceptional late 19th century 4 gallon stoneware Cake Crock by A. O. Whittemore of Havana, New York. It features a charming freehand cobalt house along the front lower body. The cobalt house scene with trees and ground line is quite rare, making this an especially desirable example.
 
The crock has a wide rolled rim with applied side handles and a cylindrical form. It is impressed “A.O. WHITTEMORE. / HAVANA. N.Y.” beneath the rim. It measures 8" high, 13 3/4" across the handles, and 13 1/8" diameter with no chips, cracks or restorations noted. There appears to be a kiln burn with some factory glaze loss directly below the house on the bottom edge. 
 
This hard to find example of New York decorated stoneware would be an appealing addition to any advanced collector.
