Offered to you is a Six-Gallon Stoneware Water Cooler with Cobalt Bird Decoration.  Believe to originate from Akron, OH in the 1870's.  This ovoid cooler features a circular bunghole with applied lug handles, a tooled shoulder, and semi-rounded rim.  It's adorned with a slip-trailed design of a bird with turned head, perched on a looping flourish.  The slip trail cobalt has spotted decoration throughout the bird and flourish. The shoulder is decorated with a slip trail "6," underscored by a curved flourish and a series of vertical slashes. The cooler inclues a wooden spigot. There is a small 1.25"  flake to the bunghole's opening and minor staining to surface, Also noted is a surface separation at the bunghole and a light surface scratch on the wall near the base. Both are factory irregularities.  This great piece in excellent conditioin would be a fine addition to your collection.
