Offered for sale is a wonderful 5 Gallon Cobalt decorated Stoneware Crock made by "Jas. Hamilton & Co., Greensboro, PA." James Hamilton ran his pottery firm in Greensboro from the 1860's to 1880 and believe this crock dates to the 1870's. The crock has a tooled shoulder, applied lug handles with cobalt highlights, and is cylindrical in shape. It has two large stenciled Roses with hanging leaves and a center floral motif with geometric stenciling beneath. There is a freehand stripe below the rim and double-stamped stenciled "5's" found to the left of the stenciled mark "JAS. HAMILTON & CO GREENSBORO PA". The Crock is slightly out of round and has typical glaze and firing imperfections, as well as, some turkey droppings. There's an area along the upper rim that could be a factory anomaly or a very smooth flake. The albany interior has some calcium deposits and two surface crows feet are shown in photos. The crock rings true and would be a great addition to any Stoneware collection.
