Superb 5 Gallon Stoneware Jar featuring an intricate Cobalt Bird on a Branch. The style of the bird indicates the jar was made by Philip Riedinger and Adam Caire of Poughkeepsie, N.Y. who partnered in stoneware from 1857 to 1878. The jar has lug handles with impressed 5 gallonage mark below an incised line and rolled rim. The jar is in excellent condition with an 1/8" nibble to the top interior edge. There appears to be some wear to the albany interior and a couple of stone pings on an exterior wall, shown in photos. There are typical glaze variations, but no further chips, cracks, or restorations noted. This outstanding jar would be the perfect addition to any collection.
