Offered to you from David Sinclair Antiques is this exceptional Stoneware Jar with cobalt Pecking Chicken. This circa 1875 jar is stamped "NEW YORK STONEWARE CO. FORT EDWARD, N.Y." It has a cylindrical shape with semi rounded rim, tooled shoulder, and applied lug handles. It's decorated with a slip trailed design of a Chicken Pecking Corn with a stylized shrub flourish. There are cobalt highlights to the maker's mark and the impressed "5" capacity mark. Also found, is a glazed over, in -the-firing, stone ping, as well as, some minimal base and rim flakes. Height is 15 1/2". This remarkable piece will make a unique addition to any collection.
