Presenting an exceptionally appealing two gallon stoneware butter crock, boldly decorated in cobalt script with the words “Creamery Butter.” The impressive size, strong cobalt lettering, and distinctive form make this a desirable example of late 19th century stoneware.
The crock measures 10 7/8" in diameter and 8" high and features an impressed “2” capacity mark beneath the rim. There are applied lug handles, with an Albany slip glazed interior.
Condition is very good, with a small nibble to the interior rim, a 1/4" flake to the outside rim, and a 1/2" flake to the reverse rim. Minor scattered flecks of glaze loss are also present on the reverse.
Dimensions: 10 7/8" diameter x 8" in height.
This scarce Creamery Butter crock in its substantial two gallon size would be a wonderful addition to a serious stoneware collection.
