Offered for sale is this S.B. Bosworth 1 gallon stoneware Churn from Hartford, Connecticut, circa 1880–1890. It features a semi-ovoid form with a tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles. There is an impressed “S.B. BOSWORTH / HARTFORD, CONN.” mark and a freehand cobalt blue foliate spray accented with three cobalt dots. S.B. Bosworth was a Hartford stoneware manufacturer, and examples of his marked cobalt-decorated wares are well documented.

 

The churn measures 10¾" high x 6" diameter and is in as-made condition with scattered kiln firing marks and a stone ping. The rare 1 gallon size makes this an especially desirable piece for the early Connecticut stoneware collector. S.B. Bosworth was a Hartford stoneware manufacturer, and examples of his marked cobalt-decorated wares are well documented.
