We are pleased to offer a very fine, circa 1875, three Gallon Cobalt Decorated Stoneware Jar. The Jar was made by Alexander Conrad featuring their stenciled mark that reads "A. CONRAD. MONONGAHELA POTTERY. NEW GENEVA PA" The cylindrical jar has a tooled shoulder with semi rounded rim and applied lug handles. There's a freehand cobalt stripe below the rim and incised line. Also found is a stenciled cobalt "3" flanked by foliate designs with added cobalt highlights to the handles. The jar is in excellent condition with factory glaze variations and 1 stilt mark to the upper lip. There are some calcium depositis to the albany interior, a small blowout on the exterior lip, and a 1/2" chip to the upper edge, all shown in photos. There are no further chips, cracks, or restorations found. This Hard to Find Jar would please any collector.
