Offered is a wonderful circa 1875 Western Pennsylvania stoneware Cream Pot, boldly marked in cobalt “From W. D. Cooper & Bro. No. 7 Diamond Pittsburgh.”  W. D. Cooper & Bro. operated as a Pittsburgh wholesale merchant, with No. 7 Diamond as their Pittsburgh address.
 
This 2 gallon form has a substantial rolled rim, brushed cobalt stripe below the rim and at the base. The pot has a freehand cobalt gallonage mark “2” flanked by dashes. The gray salt glazed surface and bold cobalt decoration are a striking combination that appeals to any collector.
 
Measuring 10" high x 9.5" diameter, it retains a strong, beautifully aged appearance. There is a 2.25" line extending from the bottom onto the side wall and some expected staining. Otherwise, the piece displays nicely with minor surface wear and manufacturing irregularities typical of early stoneware.
 
This is a wonderful survivor, with bold cobalt decoration and an important Pittsburgh merchant mark.
